NO timetable had been set for the supply of petrol subject to new and stricter national emission standard, an environmental protection bureau press conference was told yesterday.
Shenzhen had planned to start supplying the new national IV standard petrol at all gas stations from Oct. 1 to reduce vehicle emissions and improve air quality.
It had been delayed because of suppliers problems, said Chen Min, director of the bureau s motor vehicle exhaust gas management department.
The price of the new-standard petrol had not been set but would be more expensive than existing petrol, Chen said.
Shenzhen reported good air quality in the third quarter this year, which could be attributed to a series of measures taken since May, including oil-gas transformation of nine generator units and the shutdown of more than 800 small coal furnaces, according to the bureau.
Although the frequency of acid rain grew in the third quarter, the PH level of the acid rain had increased by 0.03 percent, which indicated a reduction in emissions, according to the quarterly report.
The middle and lower reaches of the city s main rivers remained polluted in the third quarter. while Futian, Maozhou, Xixiang and Guanlan rivers had worsening pollution. The city s major 13 reservoirs reported good water quality in the third quarter.
