TEN-YEAR-OLD prodigy Su Liuyi, who achieved 566 points in this year s college entrance examinations, has arrived at South University of Science and Technology even though the university hasn t started admissions yet.
Su first appeared in the university s running team Monday for the city s long-distance running day. As a quasi-freshman, his appearance as the youngest runner immediately caught the attention of teachers and students running at Shenzhen University Town in Xili, Nanshan District.
He finished the run accompanied by his mother, Liu Xinxin, who came along to look after him. She said Su liked mountaineering and hiking, was in good health, and had adapted to life in Shenzhen.
Su was considered a prodigy after spending just two-and-a-half days in primary school, one year in middle school and one year in high school before attending the National College Entrance Examinations in June this year.
Although many prestigious Chinese universities offered to enroll Su, he finally chose South University of Science and Technology, passing interviews by a panel of professors including Zhu Qingshi, president of the university, and professors from the University of Hong Kong.
Su s professors believe he is gifted in mathematics and has above-average abilities in imagination, memory and creativity.
