SHENZHEN S green taxi drivers have gone back to work following a strike in protest at unlicensed taxi services they say are running rampant in Longgang and Bao an districts.
Shenzhen s transport commission said it would continue to work alongside police in tackling illegal taxi services by electric bikes and private cars.
Over the weekend, more than 2,000 electric bikes had been checked and 17 car drivers operating illegal taxis had been punished, the commission said.
The campaign followed a strike by about 600 green cab drivers Oct. 25 and 26, who expressed dissatisfaction at the number of illegal taxi services operating in the city.
Authorities lowered the deposit for green taxis from 90,000 yuan (US$13,491) to 50,000 yuan following the strike.
The commission said there were about 600,000 electric bikes in the city and quite some of them were involved in illegal services.
The commission also said it would limit the number of taxis to ensure drivers incomes.
