Driver caught

A MOTORCYCLE rider who hit a Hong Kong man but didn t stop was caught by police Sunday. The Hong Kong man was in a stable condition in Ren ai Hospital in Futian District. The incident happened Oct. 20 and the rider identified as Li was caught by census officers and a plainclothes police officer who were visiting households in Futian. They said Li looked nervous and police found scratches on his left arm. His motorcycle was also damaged, police said yesterday. Li admitted hitting the Hong Kong man after questioning.

DIY traffic solution

DRIVERS involved in minor accidents are required move their vehicles to the roadside to discuss compensation instead of blocking traffic. Police video footage showed an accident on Beihua Boulevard near Nigang Village was resolved in three minutes and had not caused a traffic jam yesterday, the first day the new rule was implemented.

According to the new rule, drivers who obstruct traffic after minor accidents face a 500-yuan (US$75) fine.

Key projects

CONSTRUCTION work started on 20 key projects Sunday to promote the integration of the special economic zone and accelerate the transformation of economic growth patterns.

The total cost of the projects is estimated at 7.75 billion yuan (US$1.16 billion), the city development and reform commission said Sunday. The projects involve industrial development, infrastructure, environmental protection and improvement of people s livelihood.

The infrastructure construction costing 3.21 billion yuan includes road projects connecting Nanshan, Futian, Luohu with Bao an and Longgang districts.

Seven projects are related to improving people s livelihood such as government-subsidized housing for low-income families and spending in education, heath care and food safety.
