SHENZHEN on Sunday announced a list of 10 slogans with the most impact driving people to action in the country s first special economic zone s takeoff in the past 30 years.
Time is Money, Efficiency is Life topped the list, which was voted by a panel of journalists, publicity officials and millions of Internet users in two months.
The slogan was considered the most influential in China when the official publication of a poster carrying the slogan was placed at the intersection of Shekou Industrial Road and it shook the entire country in 1981.
Submitted by Yuan Geng, founder of the Shekou Industrial Park who was well known in China as a pioneer of reform, the slogan inspired the entire country like spring thunder and audaciously interpreted the market-oriented economy.
The other nine slogans included Empty Talk Endangers the Nation, Practical Work Brings Prosperity, Dare to Become the World s First, Reform and Innovation are the Root and Soul of Shenzhen, Let the City be Respected for Its Love of Reading, Encourage Innovation and Be Tolerant of Failure, Achieving the Cultural Rights of Citizens, Helping Others for Enjoyment, No Distance Between Shenzhen and the World, and You Are a Shenzhener Once You Come Here.
The selection originated from a popular post on the Internet. A netizen, who came to Shenzhen 19 years ago, published a post titled Looking back on inspiring slogans after living in Shenzhen for 18 years Aug. 1, 2010.
The post attracted wide attention from netizens. The Shenzhen Press Group launched a poll Aug. 20.
On Oct. 20, a panel of judges selected the top 30 slogans out of 103 entries. About 6,600 netizens had participated in the voting by Nov. 6. (Li Jing)
