3m park visitors
MORE than 3 million people visited the 21 venues of the six-day 5th Park Cultural Festival, which closed Saturday.
A total of 138 performances were staged during the festival, according to the urban management bureau.

Foreign travelers
MORE than 60,000 inbound foreign travelers passed through Huanggang Checkpoint last month, a 36-percent increase over the previous month, the Shenzhen General Station of Exit and Entry Frontier Inspection said.
More than 31,000 foreign travelers entered Shenzhen through Futian Checkpoint last month, up 5.8 percent over September.
The station attributed the increase to a cluster of economic and trade fairs in October, which is also considered a peak travel time for most parts of China.
Money for charity
THE Bao an Charity Association has raised more than 330 million yuan (US$50 million) since it was established almost four years ago. Eight charity projects launched by the association have benefited about 1,400 people including residents with hukou (permanent residence permit) and migrant workers.
Kiosks removed
ELEVEN news kiosks in Yantian District that have stood unused for some time were removed Sunday. Authorities will launch an inspection in the district to crack down on unlicensed newsstands.
Pedestrian killed
A PEDESTRIAN was killed in a five-vehicle pileup at the intersection of Jixiang Road Central and Shenhui Road in Longgang District on Sunday afternoon. The accident was suspected to have been caused by a bus that swerved into the oncoming lane when the brakes failed. Police are investigating.
Glasses base
LONGGANG District has applied to the Central Government to be designated a manufacturing base for high-grade eyeglasses. Once approved, it will become China s fourth manufacturing base for eyeglasses after Wenzhou in Zhejiang Province, Danyang in Suzhou Province and Xiamen in Fujian Province.
Shenzhen has nearly 500 manufacturers with an annual output of some 200 million pairs of glasses, 95 percent of which are exported to more than 130 countries and regions. It accounts for 60 percent of the global market share.
