Drug smuggling

LUOHU Customs said Friday an outbound Hong Kong man had been detained carrying 971 grams of drugs.

The unidentified man said he was paid 2,800 yuan (US$420) to carry the drugs, according to the department. Customs did not specify the drugs seized.

Icebreaker arrives

THE icebreaker Xuelong (Snow Dragon) is due to arrive in Shenzhen today and set sail on China s 27th Antarctic expedition after a three-day stay in the city.

Boat show

BOAT builders had 110 yachts from 20 countries on display at the China (Shenzhen) International Boat Exhibition 2010, which opened Thursday. This was 30 percent more than last year.

Tourists stranded

A MECHANICAL fault left about 40 tourists stuck in cable cars in mid-air for about 30 minutes at the OCT East theme park Saturday.

The tourists were rescued safely after the system resumed operation.

Blood donation

SHENZHEN residents with the rare RH negative blood type have donated 28,700 milliliters of blood for emergencies during the Asian Games.

Of the total blood taken from 74 donors, 20,000 milliliters would be sent to Guangzhou yesterday.

Price hike

THE price of bottled liquefied petroleum gas would rise a further 5 to 6 yuan, Shenzhen Gas Group announced Saturday.

It is the third price hike since October. An 11.6-kg bottle would now cost 104 yuan in Futian, Luohu and Nanshan districts, 103 yuan in Longgang, Bao an and Yantian districts, and 101 yuan in remote subdistricts and villages in Kuichong, Dapeng and Nan ao in Longgang District.
