A KIDNAPPER who took two women hostage was shot dead in a three-hour standoff in Futian District on Saturday.
Police said the kidnapper, identified as He, 26, a native of Hubei Province and unemployed, followed a woman into her apartment in Shuiwei Village in Futian District at around 10 a.m. with the intention of robbing her. A second woman called police from inside the apartment.
When police broke into the apartment, they found the kidnapper holding a knife and a replica gun, threatening to kill the women.
After two hours of negotiations, police opened fire, killing He. One of the women was taken to hospital.
The Futian People s Procuratorate released a statement saying it was legal for police to open fire under the circumstances.
An investigation is under way.
