Free fair buses
THE Shenzhen transport commission will open bus routes to the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center from Nantou Checkpoint, Shuiku Terminal, Nanling Village in Buji Subdistrict, Pingshan Grand Industrial Zone, Shiyan Bus Terminal and Longhua Bus Terminal during the China Hi-Tech Fair from Nov. 16-21.
Commuters with tickets or visitor or exhibitor passes could ride free, the transport commission said yesterday. The ticket and pass holders can also take Metro trains and other buses to the exhibition center for free.
Smuggled goods
SHENZHEN Customs seized almost 900 tons of smuggled frozen goods in the past week, the department said yesterday.
On Monday, customs police intercepted a freighter carrying 370 tons of smuggled goods. Six suspects were detained.
The frozen goods were loaded in Hong Kong and were headed for the Chinese mainland, according to customs officials.
Universiade stamps
RESIDENTS can reserve a set of Universiade stamps at China Post branches from today. The stamps are due to be issued next year.
Volunteer firemen
THERE are 11,628 volunteer firemen in Shenzhen, according to the city s firefighting department.
Residents can apply to be a volunteer fireman by logging on to www.gdfire.gov.cn or www.sva.org.cn.
Toddler drowns
A 3-YEAR-OLD boy drowned in a rooftop water tank at an apartment building in Nanwan Subdistrict, Longgang, on Tuesday evening.
The boy stepped on a rotted plank covering the water tank and fell in, Nanling police said.
