A DRIVER was detained for 20 days for drunk driving and assaulting a police officer.
Li Weide was found sleeping in his car in the middle of Binhe Boulevard near the Chegongmiao Flyover on Tuesday morning.
When a police officer approached his car at around 7 a.m., he found Li was in the driver s seat with one foot on the brake.
When the driver regained his senses he was told his blood-alcohol level was 200mg/100ml and he would be detained. He became agitated and tried to escape, police said yesterday.
The officer tried to stop him but Li scuffled and verbally abused the officer. Li then staggered into the middle of Binhe Boulevard but was grabbed by the officer who forced him to the median strip for protection from passing cars.
On the same day, police arrested five people for drunk driving.
