THE average price of leafy vegetables in Shenzhen fell for the fifth straight week as the weather improved and supplies increased.
The average price of 1.99 yuan (US$0.30) per 500 grams was much lower than the 3.71 yuan per 500 grams during the National Day holidays, the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported yesterday.
The average price of all vegetables was 2.09 yuan per 500 grams this week, 6 percent lower than last week while the average price of 40 vegetables sold at Buji Farm Produce Wholesale Market was 1.95 yuan per 500 grams Tuesday, the paper said.
However, the average price of other vegetables including pumpkin, white gourd and beans was 2.16 yuan per 500 grams this week, about 16.5 percent higher than last week, the paper said.
The price of rice also rose by between 5 and 10 percent.
Compared with last week, the average price of root vegetables, such as ginger and garlic, rose by 4.1 percent to 2.31 yuan per 500 grams.
The price of potatoes was stable at 1.8 yuan per 500 grams, despite continuing price increases in places such as Gansu. (Li Hao)
