A TOTAL of 3,227 migrant workers in Shenzhen would be offered permanent residence permits after a new hukou rating system attracted nearly 16,000 applications by Oct. 31, the city s human resources and social security administration said yesterday.
The successful applicants were among those who had at least 100 points in the 250-point rating system. They will be listed on the administration s Web site http://www.szhrss.gov.cn until Nov. 15.
The administration encourages residents to report any incorrect information submitted by the applicants by calling hotlines 12333 or 8210-8904. Those submitting false information would be removed from the hukou list.
Informants were required to give their real names, contact numbers and home or work addresses, which would be kept confidential, the administration said.
Those on the list were required to check their personal credit reports at specified inquiry centers in five working days after the list was published.
The hukou quota would be allocated to companies or recruitment service centers where migrant workers apply and applicants must submit details of their original hukou to the administration before Dec. 6.
More than 6 million migrant workers work in the city. About 40,000 have been granted Shenzhen hukou since 2004.
Migrant workers are not treated equally with their counterparts with hukou in employment, education, healthcare and social security.
Under the new rating system, educational backgrounds, skill levels, social security records and participation in charity activities such as donating blood all contribute to a worker s rating, while offensive behavior, including criminal records and violation of the family planning policy, lead to a loss of points.
