Road injuries
THREE workers were injured on a zebra crossing in Nanlian Subdistrict, Longgang District, on Sunday. A woman, named Wu, was in a critical condition and the other two, surnamed Ren and Yang, were slightly injured. They were being treated at Longgang Central Hospital. Police are investigating.
Explosives found
A CLEANER found 2kg of explosives wrapped in a plastic bag in a dust bin near a wet market in Shiyan, Bao an District, yesterday morning. The explosives were found when the cleaner was emptying the dust bin at around 6 a.m., a witness surnamed Sha told the Shenzhen Daily. Police had taken the explosives away for further investigation.
Asiad visitors
SHENZHEN International Airport had seen 10,954 foreigners enter China in the first week of November, an increase of 59.5 percent compared with the same period last year. Besides traveling for sightseeing and business, some were coming for the Asian Games this month. Most were from Asian countries such as Malaysia, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Japan and India, airport sources said.
Beauty pageant
A BEAUTY pageant organized by Guangdong Province s Returned Overseas Chinese Association will be held in Shenzhen next month, a press conference in Luohu District was told Sunday. Oriental Wisdom Miss Asia International with candidates from Macao and other Chinese-speaking regions aimed to promote oriental beauty, said Zhong Weiqiang, an association official.
Drug smuggling
A HONG KONG man was caught trying to smuggle nearly 1 kilogram of ketamine into Hong Kong at Luohu Checkpoint on Friday. The man, whose identity was not disclosed, said he was paid 2,800 yuan (US$420) to take the drug which he hid in his underpants. The matter was handed over to police for further investigation.
