FIFTEEN people were arrested in waters off Dachan Island on Monday night trying to enter Hong Kong for work, Shenzhen border police said Tuesday.
The illegal immigrants said they wanted to go to Hong Kong to find jobs. We were contacted by a man who told us that he could take us to Hong Kong to find jobs and each of us could earn 9,000 yuan (US$1,350) a month there, said one of the illegal immigrants.
He said the man, identified only as Zhang, said they could pay the transport fee after they earned money in Hong Kong.
The boat skipper also said he was paid 2,000 yuan by Zhang to ferry the 14 men to Hong Kong. I just followed his orders, he said.
The illegal immigrants have been transferred to Shenzhen Customs for further investigation. (SD News)
