MORE than 50,000 people have applied for just 554 positions with the city s civil service.
Of the 554 posts, which involve management, administrative enforcement and specialized technology, the post of assistant law enforcer with the labor bureau in Longgang District attracted 429 candidates.
In addition, more than 5,000 candidates will compete for 13 positions with the Shenzhen Municipal Social Security Fund Management Bureau.
Around 74 percent of the candidates hold a bachelor s degree while 97 are PhD holders.
The positions are open to people with at least a college degree, including workers and farmers from outside the city.
Previously, people without Shenzhen hukou, a household registration certificate, could apply for these positions if they were a cadre. In China, civil servants are divided into cadres, workers and contractual government employees.
About half the candidates did not possess Shenzhen hukou and were from other provinces.
Examinations are scheduled for Nov. 20, with qualification inspections to be conducted from Dec. 5 to 7. Interviews will be conducted between Dec. 14 and 16, with the results to be released from Dec. 17 to 19.
About 80 percent of the positions are low-paid jobs and up to 30 percent require at least two years experience.
The first round of recruitment was conducted in February.
