SHENZHEN S tallest building, formerly known as Kingkey Financial Center during its construction, has officially been named Kingkey 100.
The official name follows a two-month campaign to choose a name, which attracted more than 20,000 suggestions from residents and people from around the country.
The 100 in the name indicates a continuous hardworking process toward perfection, according to a selection panel consisting of professionals from the real estate industry.
The name s creator, Chen Changyang, was not surprised when told of his success, media reports said.
Chen, an engineer, spent a week studying the building and conducting research before coming up with the name which was one of 30 submitted.
Chen also came up with the somewhat predictable title for the newest landmark building in Guangzhou: Guangzhou Tower.
Costing almost 5 billion yuan (US$754 million) in Caiwuwei, Luohu District, Kingkey 100 is 441.8 meters tall and will house a five-star hotel operated by Starwood Hotels. It has 98 stories.
