Shenzhen social insurance fund management authority will upgrade the function of social insurance cards by including the medical records of card holders.
The new function will enable patients to avoid repetitive checks and diagnoses when they are transferred to other hospitals for treatment and help doctors improve efficiency. Residents won't need to keep paper medical records at home, the insurance fund management authority said Friday.
The program will be trialled at major hospitals for a year.
The bureau was also collaborating with the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China to tie-in social insurance card services though bank ATMs and online allowing bank card users to check their insurance information, change passwords or apply for medical insurance payments.
Bank accounts could be used to settle the accounts of card users for retirement pensions, medical reimbursements, payments for on-the-job injuries and unemployment relief.
