Veggie prices fall
THE average price of greens in Shenzhen fell for the sixth straight week thanks to fine weather and increased supply. The average price of a number of leafy vegetables has dropped to below 1 yuan (US$0.15) per 500 grams.
The average price of more than 40 vegetables sold at Buji Farm Produce Wholesale Market was 1.73 yuan per 500 grams Tuesday. The average price of leafy vegetables was 1.42 yuan per 500 grams and root vegetables 2.25 yuan. The average price of vegetables such as pumpkin, white gourd and beans was 1.84 yuan per 500 grams.
Cities join hands
MARKET supervision administrations in Shenzhen, Dongguan and Huizhou signed a cooperation agreement Tuesday to crack down on monopolies, unfair competition, pyramid sales and smuggling.
Under the agreement, a company blacklisted in Shenzhen will also be monitored by authorities in Dongguan and Huizhou. Shenzhen companies that encounter monopolies or unfair competition in either Dongguan or Huizhou can file a complaint with the market supervision administration in Shenzhen.
Passage cave-in
AN underground passage under construction on Zhenhua Road in Futian District caved in Tuesday afternoon. Ten workers escaped the collapse and no injuries were reported.
Damaged gas and water pipelines beneath the passage disrupted water and gas supplies to several nearby housing estates.
Income support
SHENZHEN is considering raising income support for low-income families from 415 yuan per month to 450 yuan per month, the highest in China, the civil affairs bureau said.
There are 12,699 people in 4,575 low-income households in Shenzhen. The city government spent 55.22 million yuan subsidizing low-income families last year.
Hit-and-run case
SHENZHEN Procuratorate on Tuesday approved an arrest warrant for a suspected hit-and-run driver, charging him with intentional injury.
The driver, Chen Haiwu, allegedly knocked down two pedestrians, a woman and a man, on Shenshan Road in Pingshan New Zone on Oct. 18. Chen allegedly fled the scene of the accident, dragging the male victim, Zhang Zhenzhong from Henan, beneath his car for 2.5 kilometers. The woman suffered a fractured wrist and Zhang, who fell free of the car when it stopped at a red traffic light, sustained serious injuries.
