THE Futian District Government will make it a top priority to improve the quality of life of residents in its 12th five-year program (2011-2015), the top district official said Monday.
Our ultimate goal is to improve people s livelihoods and make them feel well and happy, said Liu Qingsheng, the district Party chief.
Under a preliminary plan, the per capita disposable income of Futian residents is expected to reach 60,000 yuan (US$9,033) in five years, an annual increase of 9 percent. Total GDP volume will rise from 180 billion yuan this year to 260 billion yuan in 2015.
The district government said it would set aside more than 72 percent of its budget to improve overall quality of life.
Other measures will include improving public services, as well as increasing expenditure on health care and culture.
The number of doctors per 10,000 residents in the district is expected to increase from 38 now to 44.5 in five years, while the number of books in public libraries is expected to increase from 1.36 million now to 2.2 million.
Residents could also expect an easier life, Liu said. Next year, the district government will set up an interactive service platform to better serve residents and enterprises. If the toilet in your home is broken, all you need to do is make a phone call, said an unidentified district official.
To cater to the public s spiritual and cultural needs, the district government will begin building between 20 and 30 museums in Antuoshan next year.
The building of 50 urban sculpture projects is also under consideration.
