Games volunteers

LONGGANG District has begun recruiting 185,000 volunteers for the 26th Summer Universiade, to be held next August.

Five hundred recruitment booths will be set up in the district.

The volunteers will be trained at the district s 60 volunteer training bases.

False police report

A MAN was detained for five days by Futian police for allegedly making a false report to police last week.

The man, identified as Chen, told police last week his car had been stolen from near Lianxin Road in Futian. He later admitted he loaned the car to a friend three years ago.

Chen said his friend refused to return the car and had recorded more than 20 traffic offenses, which prompted him to make the false report.

Electrocution

AN unidentified man was electrocuted Monday by a transformer in an industrial park in Shajing Subdistrict in Bao an District.

It was suspected that the man had been attempting to steal high-voltage power lines.

Police are investigating.

Recruitment scam

BAO AN police have arrested a man who allegedly defrauded more than 20 jobseekers of 70,000 yuan (US$10,550) by pretending to be a recruiter for a luxury hotel.

The man, identified as Shi, had allegedly conspired with his wife to commit the scams in August.

Victims were attracted by claims of a salary of more than 10,000 yuan and paid Shi fees for procedures.
