Project investment
THE city put 27.94 billion yuan (US$4.2 billion) into 69 key projects including airport and rail projects in the first 10 months of the year, accounting for 99.7 percent of its annual budget, the Shenzhen development and reform commission said.
A total of 3.2 billion yuan was spent on four airport projects in the first 10 months, overspending the 2010 budget by 12.2 percent. Expenditure on 11 rail projects reached 16.2 billion yuan, 11.5 percent over budget.
Green buildings
SIX buildings, four of which are government-subsidized housing, were certified green buildings by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development on Sunday.
The buildings, which feature natural lighting, solar panels and rooftop greening, are expected to reduce carbon emissions by about 1,027 tons a year.
iPad smuggling
A HONG KONG man was caught by customs officers at Luohu Checkpoint on Sunday after he tried to evade paying 2,000-yuan tax on two iPads.
The man was not identified.
Suicide survivor
A MAN was seriously injured after jumping for a second time off a footbridge onto a passing bus in Futian District on Sunday.
The man, who was not identified, was not injured in the first fall, according to a witness named Zhang. So he dusted himself off, walked back up the footbridge and jumped a second time, Zhang said.
He was taken by ambulance to Shenzhen Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital. Doctors said he had sustained a fractured skull but was out of danger.
Gas explosion
A WOMAN suffered burns to 40 percent of her body when a gas cylinder exploded at her home in Fuyong, Bao an District, on Saturday. The woman, identified as Luo, smelled gas after she returned home from shopping.
The gas cylinder exploded when she was about a meter away, police said.
