A CHINA Telecom employee was charged with selling personal information by the Bao an Procuratorate on Sunday.
The defendant, Lin, an employee of the corporate clients department, became acquainted with a man in the IP phone business in October 2009.
After learning that the contact, identified as Wang, needed information about potential customers, Lin offered to sell him the personal information of China Telecom customers plus a commission rate. Wang readily agreed.
From October 2009 to July this year, Lin sent more than 500,000 pieces of confidential personal information to Wang via e-mail, earning more than 2,000 yuan (US$301) in commission. During the same period, Wang shared the information with another man, Jian, engaged in the telecom business.
