TWO men have been sentenced to life in prison by Shenzhen Intermediate People s Court for killing the owner of a cylinder gas station in Shajing, Bao an District, last year.
Jiang Qingru, the owner of a rival cylinder gas station who masterminded the attack, was given a 15-year jail term. Six others were sentenced to terms ranging from one to 15 years in prison and ordered to pay the victim s family more than 800,000 yuan (US$120,464) in compensation.
The judge said Jiang was given a lenient sentence because he had assisted police in capturing Zhang Jianxin, a driver who was also involved in the attack.
Relatives of the victim, Jiang Zhaonan, said they would lodge an appeal with the city procuratorate to demand a stiffer penalty for Jiang Qingru. They would also appeal to a higher court for more compensation.
Jiang Qingru s cylinder gas station was plundered and damaged by unknown attackers in September 2009. Jiang Qingru thought Jiang Zhaonan was responsible for the attack.
On the night of Sept. 27, 2009, Jiang Qingru and four others traveling in two cars followed Jiang Zhaonan to the intersection of Beihuan Boulevard and Bao an Boulevard in Shajing Subdistrict. Jiang Qingru and Wang Yasheng gave the order and their accomplices, Xia Pingbo, Li Shurong and Liao Jiachuan, forced their way into Jiang Zhaonan s car and attacked him with knives. When Jiang Zhaonan fought back, Xia fired two shots at him.
Jiang Zhaonan later died in hospital.
