Port throughput
Yantian Port's throughput reached over 8.49 million standard containers in the first 10 months of this year, up 21.1 percent over the same period last year, according to the Yantian District Government.
The total throughput this year is expected to reach 10 million standard containers.
The port's throughput has been in decline since 2009 under the influence of global economic crisis.
U.K. Universiade team
The United Kingdom will send a 300-member team to the 26th Summer Universiade, due to open in Shenzhen in August next year, according to the Universiade organizing body. The British team will compete in 22 events at the Games.
Chrysanthemum show
The 27th Shenzhen chrysanthemum exhibition is due to open at Donghu Park in Luohu District on Saturday, according to the urban management bureau.
The 18-day exhibition will cover an area of 40,000 square meters and will feature more than 30,000 pots of chrysanthemums in 200 varieties.
South Korean tourists
Shekou Checkpoint has seen an increase in the number of inbound South Korean tour groups since the beginning of this month, according to the Shekou frontier inspection station.
Most of the tourists are middle-aged couples.
The slack farming season in South Korea has led to an increase in outbound tourists, according to the checkpoint tour agency.
Cross-border students
Checkpoints across the city had seen a daily average of 10,000 cross-border students by Nov. 20, according to Shenzhen Customs.
Shenzhen Customs opened special channels for cross-border students in March 2008.
