Charity forum
THE China Charity 100 Forum will hold its second conference today at Shenzhen Hua an Conifer Hotel. Twenty-nine representatives from the government, non-profit organizations, academia and the media will participate in contributing to the topic of Civil Charity and Government Responsibility. Shenzhen was chosen to host the topic due to the city s achievements in building a civil society.
The forum was organized by notable philanthropists in China to share experience and improve self-governance in the charity industry. The forum s first conference was held in Beijing in May this year.
Lottery sales
THE city raked in 2 billion yuan in sales of lottery tickets and raised 600 million yuan (US$90 million) for the public good this year, the Shenzhen Social Welfare Lottery Issuing Center said Wednesday. The money raised has been used for 2,000 projects for the elderly, children, social aid and charity programs.
Drivers fined
FORTY-SEVEN motorists were fined over the past week for causing traffic jams following minor accidents, after police introduced a new rule stipulating that drivers involved in such accidents must move their cars out of the road. Police received 14,581 accident reports between Nov. 15 and 23 and less than 3 percent of accidents caused traffic jams, police said yesterday.
Those drivers who refuse to follow the directive and cause jams can be fined 500 yuan, according to the new rule.
Worker wanted
A WORKER is wanted by Bao an police for allegedly stealing electronic goods with a market value of 1 million yuan (US$149,254) from his employer Monday night. The suspect, identified as Wang, 25, was a supervisor of a production line at a factory in Shiyan Subdistrict, Bao an District. The theft was recorded by a factory surveillance camera and has gone missing afterwards.
