Enrolment dispute

MORE than 100 students were unable to register at Shenzhen Polytechnic because of a dispute between the school and its partner, Longgang Hanlin School.

Most of the students were junior students in Longgang and the university said they were deceived by an advertisement placed by the Hanlin School. Shenzhen Polytechnic said it would not admit students with only junior school education. Parents said they had paid at least 18,000 yuan (US$2,687) in tuition fees into the account of Shenzhen Polytechnic. Shenzhen Polytechnic said it planned to enroll 30 senior school students, while Hanlin school had recruited more than 100 unqualified students.

Police are investigating.

Man kills mother

A MAN surnamed Xu was handed over to the city procuratorate yesterday for prosecution on a charge of murdering his mother. Xu, 26, became deaf and mute after he was vaccinated at the age of 3. He blamed his mother for his disability. Xu attacked his mother with a kitchen knife when she was washing clothes Aug. 2. She tried to escape, but Xu locked the door and hacked her to death.

He was caught the same evening.

Naked robber

A MAN surnamed Zhang was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in jail for robbery in a dormitory of female workers by Longgang District Court yesterday.

Zhang broke into the dormitory of Hitachi Storage in Pingshan Grand Industry Zone on May 8 and stripped off his clothes before entering a room to steal, the court said. He threatened to rape a woman worker surnamed Wu if she didn t give him money. Wu was afraid and snatched the knife from Zhang who was caught when trying to escape.
