A YOUNG man who failed the National College Entrance Examinations (NCEE) has remained locked in his room in Luohu District for the past four years.

The 23-year-old stays home in Gangpeng New Village all day and does nothing but sleep and surf Internet after he failed the NCEE in 2006.

His father surnamed Zhang, 53, makes a living selling soybean curd on the street. They lived in a rented apartment in Gangpeng New Village.

Zhang said his son was not satisfied with his examination results and refused to study at a vocational school in Foshan City, which had enrolled him. He locked himself in the room all day and became bad-tempered after he failed the exam.

He refused to talk and even threatened to beat me when I tried to talk to him, Zhang said.

The mother said the young man had become disobedient because his father was too strict and sometimes beat him.

In the first two years after the examinations, he occasionally went outdoors, but in the past two years, he has just stayed at home, she said.
