CITY authorities are investigating the sudden death of an inmate in Futian District who died Thursday morning, Chinese-language media reported yesterday.
The inmate, identified only as Zhang, has been under police arrest since Jan. 6 this year over alleged contract fraud involving more than 1 million yuan (US$149,524), a www.sznews.com report said yesterday.
Zhang s trial was before the Futian District People s Court. He had been denied bail because of the large sum of money involved in the fraud, the report said.
Zhang, 63, was reported to have suffered from high blood pressure and hysteria before his death, the report said.
Zhang fell sick Wednesday night and was immediately taken to nearby Meilin Hospital for treatment. He was pronounced dead two hours later.
The procuratorate and the public security bureau have intervened to investigate Zhang s death.
