A WOMAN has appealed against a Futian court decision ordering her to pay 20,000 yuan (US$3,008) in compensation to her downstairs neighbor for damage caused by a water leak.
The appellant, identified as Li, forgot to turn off a water tap at home in June 2007, leading to flooding of the downstairs apartment owned by the claimant, Wang, the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported yesterday.
An identical incident occurred in Wang s apartment in April 2008.
Wang took Li to the Futian District People s Court after failing to reach an agreement for compensation. Wang had to refurbish her apartment following the flooding, the paper said.
However, Li admitted responsibility for the damage caused by the first water leak but disputed a 25,000-yuan compensation demand from Wang, who paid a decoration consultancy to assess the damage.
The first-instance verdict required Li to pay Wang 20,000 yuan.
The Shenzhen Intermediate People s Court is yet to hand down its decision.
