Drug stores fined
TWO drug stores were each fined 5,000 yuan (US$751) for not employing pharmacists, according to the city s drug inspection authority Friday.
The stores, Mingcheng Drug Store and Jinhuangcheng Drug Store in Longgang District, were ordered to hire pharmacists within one month, otherwise their licenses would be revoked.
It is the first time the drug authority has fined stores since new regulations governing the sale of drugs took effect Oct. 1. According to the regulations, drug stores must have qualified pharmacists and managers on duty during business hours and computer management systems must be used.
Flights to Sydney
HAINAN Airlines will open an international route from Shenzhen to Sydney, Australia, on Jan. 19, a meeting between Shenzhen Mayor Xu Qin and airline chairman Chen Feng was told Friday.
Hainan Airlines also plans to open routes to Calcutta and Bombay in India and Jakarta in Indonesia starting from Shenzhen in 2011.
In five years it will have 50 commercial planes based in Shenzhen and open 20 international routes to Australia as well as American, Asian and European countries. The airline now operates 24 routes from Shenzhen with 190-200 flights a week.
Truck restrictions
SHENHUI Road and Huangge Road in Longgang District will restrict heavy vehicles from January next year.
The two roads will be the major roads for the 2011 Universiade to be held in August in Shenzhen. The renovation of Shenhui Road will be completed at the end of this year. Huangge Road is the major road to the main venue, the district transport authority said.
Extinguisher death
A WORKSHOP owner who had allegedly been making fire extinguishers illegally was killed in an explosion in his rented apartment in Bantian, Longgang District, on Friday.
A police investigation showed the man, identified as Mao, 20, died when one of his homemade fire extinguishers exploded.
Police said there were hundreds of empty fire extinguisher bottles in the room at the time of the explosion.
