The parents of a girl who drowned in a lake in Futian District demanded compensation of 790,000 yuan (US$117,910) from Bijia Mountain Park management and Shenzhen Urban Management Bureau at a court hearing Wednesday.
The woman, identified as He, 20, disappeared after going to Bijia Mountain Park July 30, 2007. When her parents went to look for her in the park that night, security guards turned them away claiming they had cleared the park, the court was told.
But He's body was found in the park lake the following day.
He's parents brought the park and the urban management to court in September 2009, demanding compensation of 790,000 yuan. Futian District People's Court in the first hearing ruled that the park must pay the family 330,000 yuan for inadequate management, but that as He was an adult she shared some responsibility for her death.
The Urban Management Bureau didn't apportion any responsibility to the park management as it was unknown whether He died as a result of an accident or whether she took her own life.
The two sides appealed to Shenzhen Intermediate People's Court after the first hearing.
The court has yet to make a ruling.
