HONG KONG jewelry store Chow Sang Sang Holdings suspended sales of its entire line of K gold (75 percent purity) products sold in Shenzhen for quality inspection, yesterday s Shenzhen Evening News reported.
The company commissioned a national quality inspection organization to check its 18-karat (18K) gold products and only qualified products would return to the market, said an unidentified saleswoman for Chow Sang Sang at Moi Department Store Huaqiangbei Branch in Futian District on Monday.
The K gold products could be on sale again in Shenzhen in mid-January, she said.
Earlier, the Beijing Municipal Administration for Industry and Commerce found that the gold content in one of the company s 18K gold bracelets was low. The company then announced it would recall the entire line of K gold products on the mainland for inspection.
After the news circulated, the number of consumers coming to ask about returning jewelry had increased sharply, the saleswoman said.
However, only the 18K gold bracelets with series number 54860B could be returned to the store along with the guarantee card in Shenzhen. The company would not accept returns for other K gold jewelry.
K gold products were mostly made by hand, so the gold content could not be guaranteed in some products. That s why the company had recalled all the K gold products for inspection, she said.
The recall deadline is Dec. 31.
