A 4-STAR hotel in Buji Subdistrict, Longgang District, had paid 4,000 yuan (US$600) in cash and 2,000 yuan in hotel coupons as compensation to the owner of a Porsche SUV whose side mirrors were stolen while parked there overnight.
The side mirrors of the Cayenne were worth 4,100 yuan each, according to a Daily Sunshine report.
The Cayenne owner, identified as Xue, told the Daily by phone that he had to accept the compensation as he had no time for a lawsuit.
Huang Kang, a lawyer with the Shenzhen Chenggong Law Firm, said the hotel should fully compensate Xue s losses.
Xue checked in at Xingyaxuan Hotel on Dongxi Boulevard in Buji on Sunday and found side mirrors missing the next morning.
Director of the hotel s rooms department, Li, told the Daily the owners of two Mercedes-Benzs parked nearby also had side mirrors stolen.
A police officer surnamed Yuan at the Luogang Police Station said it could have been the same thieves but he had not received a report about the Mercedes-Benz theft.
The hotel s security manager refused to pay compensation when Xue checked out the next morning.
The unnamed security manager suggested claiming insurance or buying back the side mirrors for about 1,000 yuan from the thieves. He promised to find the thieves in four days.
Xue suspected the thieves had an insider at the hotel as the manager sounded certain he could find the thieves in only four days.
And it was absurd for a security manager to shift his responsibility to the insurance company, said Xue.
The negotiations ended with the hotel paying 4,000 yuan in cash and 2,000-yuan in hotel coupons. (Tina Chen)
