ALL government-subsidized buildings would meet environmental standards and 60 percent of the city s construction waste would be recycled, a seminar on green building technology at the Civic Center was told Monday.
The seminar marked the founding of a union of green building councils in tropical and subtropical regions.
Shenzhen will build green buildings occupying about 20 million square meters over the next five years and solar energy technology will be applied to 16 million square meters of buildings, Vice Mayor Zhang Wen said.
With the theme Natural ventilation, Sun-shading and Vertical Planting, the seminar aimed to promote green building technology throughout the regions.
The union will provide a regional platform where experts and officials could communicate to deal with common problems and solutions of green building in tropical and subtropical regions, said Wang Youwei, director of the China Green Building Council.
Wang said the union would conduct seminars each year to discuss green building technology.
The union emphasizes sustainable solutions in green buildings, said Tai Lee Siang, vice chairman of the Singapore Green Building Council.
Countries in tropical and subtropical regions all face the challenge of rich sunshine, high temperatures and high radiation, said Tai. That s why we should integrate advanced solutions from all member countries instead of relying on consuming energy.
Initiated by the China Green Building Council and Hong Kong Green Building Council, the union has attracted member councils from more than 10 countries and regions including Singapore, Malaysia, India, Australia and the Philippines.
