Drug prices fall
THE prices of 795 drugs sold at 625 city community health centers will be reduced by 15 percent today.
Drugs included in the reduction include penicillin, aspirin and antiviral drugs, the city health department said Friday.
Patients are eligible for a 30-percent discount on drugs if they see doctors at the centers and produce their medical insurance cards.
Mule smugglers
SHENZHEN Customs last month uncovered 939 smuggling cases involving mules people paid to smuggle goods in and out of Shenzhen.
The department seized smuggled goods worth more than 49 million yuan (US$7.35 million), including red wine, cigarettes, electronic products and currency.
Attacker jailed
LU ZHIGAO, a man who attacked a pregnant employee of the Shenzhen Municipal Social Security Fund Management Bureau last week, has been detained by police for 10 days.
The man resorted to violence to express his dissatisfaction over the assessment result of workplace injuries and attacked the woman from behind in her office Tuesday. The woman was slightly injured, Futian police said.
Road renovation
ROADWORKS on Beihuan Boulevard were completed Friday after seven months. The upgrade included resurfacing, rerouting of water, gas and electricity pipes as well as moving traffic control facilities along the 19.5-kilometer road.
The city transport commission will focus on side roads, pavements, the construction of bus stops and footbridges in the next five months.
The work is scheduled to be finished by next May.
Worker killed
A WORKER was killed and another injured when they were unloading a 2-ton steel frame at the Baodingwei Logistics Park in Longgang District on Saturday.
The steel frame, 6 meters in length and 2 meters in width, broke free when it was being unloaded from a truck and hit a worker on the head, a witness said.
Guard run down
A SECURITY guard at Lianhua Hill Park was hit by a car at around noon Saturday. The security guard, whose identity was not disclosed by police, had tried to stop a female car driver from driving into the park.
The security guard was taken to Beijing University Shenzhen Hospital with his legs sustaining multiple soft tissue injuries.
