THE average salary in Shenzhen had increased by about 16 percent to 3,198 yuan (US$480) per month, according to the 2010 Salary Guide released by the city s human resources and social security administration.

The average salary of finance industry employees topped all 18 industries including manufacturing, construction, electricity and water supply, information technology, hotel and catering, and real estate, the administration said.

Finance industry employees earned an average salary of 7,004 yuan per month with the highest at 38,376 yuan per month.

The real estate industry was second with an average salary of 4,458 yuan per month, followed by the information technology industry at 4,319 yuan per month.

Household services industry employees were among the most poorly paid with an average salary of 2,353 yuan per month.

There had been stable salary growth in the manufacturing industry since 2008. Wages increased from 2,145 yuan per month last year to 2,656 yuan per month this year. The average salary for manufacturing industry employees in 2008 was 2,010 yuan per month.

Of the 571 job categories listed in the salary guide, flight attendants were the highest paid. The highest salary was 72,146 yuan per month with an average of 20,436 yuan per month.

The second-highest paid job was company directors with an average salary of 15,678 yuan per month.

Companies in the city determine employees salaries by referring to either of the standards according to their financial status. But salaries must not be lower than the minimum wage of 1,100 yuan per month.

The 2010 Salary Guide was based on a survey of 300,000 employees in 230 companies. It is a guide for a total of 571 job categories. There were 238 jobs in the manufacturing and transport industries, 88 in commercial and services industries, and 126 for certified technicians as well as 60 new-job categories in 2010.
