A MAN who was found guilty of killing a 41-year-old busker in Luohu District was given a death sentence suspended for two years, Shenzhen Intermediate People s Court said Tuesday.
Yao Haosheng, a drug addict, was convicted of homicide, intentional assault and disturbing public order.
The court said Yao had stabbed street singer Zhong Yin when Zhong tried to save Zhuang Ziyun, a man who was being assaulted by Yao, on Jianshe Road in Luohu on March 14.
Zhong died instantly and Yao was later caught by police and security guards when he tried to escape in a taxi.
Yao said he was satisfied with the ruling and would not appeal.
The court also ordered Yao to pay 981,235 yuan (US$148,672) in compensation to Zhong s mother.
Yao told the court he had invited Zhuang to his apartment on Jianshe Road on the night of March 14 and both took drugs. He said he felt dizzy and didn t know why he had held Zhuang captive with two knives.
He stabbed Zhong when he saw Zhong approaching him.
The compensation could trigger another dispute between Zhong s mother, Liu Xiuqin, and Zhong s fiancee Wang Jihong, who claimed the money as compensation for the death of her and Zhong s son who died at a young age, Chinese-language media said.
According to Wang s lawyer, Liu had received around 460,000 yuan in donations after their son s death.
