A NIGERIAN was arrested by Shenzhen People s Procuratorate for alleged drug smuggling through the post, Shenzhen Customs said yesterday.
The man, whose identity was not disclosed, was detained in an illegal Internet cafe in Yuexiu District in Guangzhou on Nov. 1 over a parcel containing 1,008 grams of heroin and ceiling fan blades from Brazil. The parcel was intercepted by Shenzhen Customs during a routine check Oct. 20.
Going to the address on the parcel, the customs found a woman, identified as Wu, who was supposed to collect the parcel.
Wu met the man on QQ, a popular instant messaging tool in China.
He asked her to collect the parcel which he claimed contained sample products. Wu agreed expecting to develop a business relationship with the potential client.
According to customs, the alleged drug dealer sought out single Chinese women on the Internet and persuaded them to collect parcels posted from abroad.
He will face criminal charges, the procuratorate said.
Shenzhen Customs has uncovered seven cases of drug smuggling involving the parcel post this year, seizing 6.7 kilograms of various drugs.
