EXPATRIATES in Guangdong Province, Hong Kong and Macao who want to take the next Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) in Shenzhen on March 13 can start applying now, the HSK examination center in Nanshan District said Tuesday.
The registration deadline was Feb. 26, three weeks before the test at Shenzhen American International School in Nanshan District, said Zhuang Jingwen, the person in charge of the program.
The school was the only examination venue for the test in Guangdong Province and the first two tests were held Nov. 14 and Dec. 5. Nearly 200 expats from South Korea, Japan, the United States, Spain and Germany, living in Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Hong Kong and Dongguan, attended the tests.
The test was a national standard examination to assess the Chinese language proficiency of non-native speakers. It mainly examines the communicative capacity to use Chinese in daily life, work and study.
The examination was conducted in written and oral tests. The written test, including levels 1 to 6, was held 10 times a year, while the oral test, including primary, intermediate and advanced levels, was conducted three times a year.
The test results could be used for foreign students applying for Chinese universities or receiving graduation certificates. Some foreign-funded companies in China also needed their foreign staff to pass the exams, Zhuang said.
