Disgraced volunteers
MORE than 30 drivers who had lost points for traffic offenses voluntarily directed pedestrians at intersections yesterday to offset the lost points. According to Shenzhen traffic police, drivers who had points deducted could have them restored by attending training classes and carrying out community service. So far, nearly 100 drivers had participated in training courses since the new rule was initiated two weeks ago.
Foxconn trade union
MORE than 390,000 employees at Foxconn joined a trade union Wednesday and the city s Federation of Trade Unions planned to establish 83 subbranch unions and 10,000 trade union teams in the company this year.
A total of 51 subbranch unions and 8,663 trade union teams were established Friday and 4,000 employees applied to join at a ceremony Friday. The union would conduct activities for employees and help them solve problems in working and living at the company, said Chen Biao, chairman of the federation.
Bus emergency
A WOMAN who came down with food poisoning was taken to hospital by the driver and passengers of the bus on route 308. The woman, identified as Lin, is in stable condition. She suddenly felt unwell with breathing difficulties and vomiting on the bus Friday evening. The driver and three passengers took Lin to the Buji People s Hospital.
Cleaner assaulted
A MAN was detained for allegedly assaulting a street cleaner in Luohu District early Saturday. The man, whose identity was not disclosed, got out of a BMW car parked near the intersection of Nanhu and Jiabin roads and assaulted Lin Liping who he claimed had made his car dirty. Lin, 45, was taken to hospital and received three stitches to the head. The man was seized by police when he tried to escape.
