SHENZHEN residents who do not have Guangdong hukou would be able to apply for individual visits to Hong Kong from tomorrow, a news conference was told yesterday.

Under a revised rule, applicants must have lived in Shenzhen for more than one year and can be employees of government agencies, institutions, State-owned enterprises, joint ventures, foreign funded enterprises or self-employed.

They could apply for travel permit endorsements four times a year and each endorsement would be valid for up to three months, the Shenzhen Municipal Public Security Bureau said yesterday.

Applicants are required to submit their hukou, ID cards and employment statements to the exit-entry administration of Shenzhen police in each district or the Shenzhen Public Security Bureau s Exit-Entry Meilin Office.

The work statements must be produced by the personnel department of the employers.

About 4 million people in Shenzhen would qualify under the revised rule.

Since the implementation of one-year multiple-entry individual Hong Kong visit endorsements for Shenzhen permanent residents from April 1 last year, police had issued 1.23 million travel permits to Hong Kong by Sunday. A total of 679,034 travel permits were issued this year.

More than 4 million people had traveled to the HKSAR since the individual visit program was implemented in April last year.
