SHENZHEN has passed a national assessment to select national models for water conservation.
The assessment result will be submitted to the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and the National Development and Reform Commission for final approval, which would make Shenzhen the first city in Guangdong Province to claim the title.
A national assessment team set up by two State departments conducted an inspection of the city Monday and Tuesday to take a closer look at efforts to conserve water.
The assessment team heard government reports on water conservation and visited factories and residential communities during the two-day inspection. They spoke highly of the city s six-year effort to save water.
Around 88 percent of the city s industrial water is recycled each year while 21 percent of city enterprises have introduced measures to save water. (Li Hao)
