A pollution prevention program for Quanzhou leather sector has announced nowadays, according to the program Quanzhou in Fujian province will not allow to increase any new leather making factories from now on, and the pollution prevention and treatment will be strengthened for maintaining the industry sustainable growth.
The program points out the outdated production in the industry should be eliminated. Tanneries with production below 30,000 pieces of cow equivalent should be closed completely. Drums with size 2.8×2.5 meters should be stopped running by January 1, 2012. According to the requirement of the program tanneries with production less 100,000 pieces of cow equivalent should be closed by January 1, 2012, less 300,000 pieces of cow equivalent should be eliminated by January 1, 2015.
The program also sets a restrict regulation on enterprises that illegally discharge pollutants, the enterprises would be enforced to close if they were confirmed deliberate violation of the regulation.
