According to Shaoxing Customs, the import volume of cotton from Jan. to Jul. reaches 1,980 tons with the value of 3.52 million US dollars, up 77.1% compared to the same period in 2008.
Among 1,980 tons cotton imported, 574 tons are imported from USA. 544 tons are imported from India. The recovery of garment enterprises and the decline of domestic cotton output lead to the rise of cotton demand. What's more, the cotton price from global market is more favorable than that from domestic market. As a result, enterprises prefer to import cottons, which leads to the drastic rise in cotton import in Shaoxing.
