The Rockport Company announced the global availability of a limited edition style of its classic DresSports Collection. The Limited Edition DresSports will be unveiled on Friday at an exclusive breakfast reception held at Rockport’s recently redesigned New York City showroom.
The Limited Edition DresSport collection will be available in select markets worldwide beginning October 31, 2009. Each of the 500 exclusive pairs of wingtip Limited Edition DresSports is numbered, certified for authenticity, and includes several distinctive features:
• An unexpected combination of sport-inspired fabric and waterproof leathers in a wingtip creates not only a sophisticated look with a contrast in textures, but also a lightness that is comparable to most running shoes.
• A specially designed heel logo features an icon of a former Rockport marketing executive completing the 1990 NYC Marathon in his DresSports.
• A unique foot bed illustrates New York City streets and Central Park, where the New York Marathon finishes.
The first pair, Number 1, will be gifted to President Barack Obama, and the second pair will be given to Vice President Joe Biden. Twenty dollars from the sale of each pair of Limited Edition DresSports will be donated to ING's Run for Something Better program through the Orange Laces campaign. The Orange Laces campaign helps fund free school-based running fitness programs that empower children to be fit and healthy.
August 2009 marked the formal re-launch of the classic DresSports collection, first developed in 1983. The DresSports 2 collection is engineered with adidas athletic innovative design and performance for one of the most comfortable, stylish and lightweight men’s dress shoes on the market. The marriage of athletic innovation in the bottom of the shoe and contemporary style in the upper is evident in today’s second generation: DresSports 2, and the new limited edition DresSports are designed to further celebrate the revival of this classic line.
