May 16, 2010 - Following a year of nationalization and almost 18 months of being idle, workers at refractories producer Cer micas Carabobo are on a hunger strike.
Employees are due to commence the strike tomorrow to protest the continuing shutdown of the plant. May 21 marks the one-year anniversary of the nationalization of this and other companies in the steel and iron sector. However after several meetings and protests, there continues to be no official announcement as to when the plant will be up and running again.
Cer micas Carabobo, if operating, would supply steel producer Sidor, which must import this material to maintain its output levels, which have also has been compromised.
