Xiamen has become the largest distribution centre for Taiwan fruits and aquatic products in the Chinese mainland, according to statistics from the city s inspection and quarantine authorities.
In 2009, the import volume of Taiwan fruits via Xiamen Port accounted for 70% of the total zero-tariff fruits from Taiwan. And the import volume of Taiwan aquatic products accounted for 99.27% of the mainland s total.
Xiamen imported 563 tons of fruits from Taiwan in February, a year-on-year increase of 70 percent. Major fruits imported from Taiwan include pineapple, guava and oranges. Taiwan fruits sell well due to their quality and price.
The Chinese mainland scrapped import taxes on 15 kinds of Taiwanese fruits, including pineapples, cherimoyas, pawpaws, carambolas, mangos, guavas, wax-apples, pinangs, grapefruits, jujubes, coconuts, loquats, plums, peaches, and persimmons on August 25, 2005.
