BEIJING, March 26 -- An unidentified woman displays two multi-legged bullfrogs in Xuzhou, East China's Jiangsu Province. The one on the left sports five legs, while the other one has seven.
An aquatic food businessman surnamed Zhou found them at a wholesale market on March 20 and said the mutant amphibians are also larger than normal and don't appear to be affected by their extra legs.
"They can crawl swiftly on the ground," he said. A local scientist said he believed the freak frogs were the result of gene mutations caused by severe water pollution in the area.
