March 22-Vice Minister Zhang Taolin met the visiting President and CEO of DuPont, Ellen J. Kullman, to exchange opinions on agricultural cooperation between the company and the Chinese side.
The Vice Minister pointed out that world agriculture and China s agriculture had shown that technology played an important role in this regard. China had committed to enhancing cooperation among universities, research institutes and the enterprises, so as to pool their advantages to promote technological innovation and efficient use of resources. China needed international cooperation and exchanges to build up its modern agriculture. Therefore, the Vice Minister stated China s readiness to work with DuPont in fields such as agricultural chemistry and breeding, in order to make use of the advanced technologies of DuPont to promote China s modern agriculture.
In response to DuPont s complaint on counterfeits of its pesticide products, the Vice Minister stressed that intellectual property rights (IPR) was the guarantee of technological innovation. China attached great attention to the protection of IPR. He hoped to further communication with DuPont to solve relevant problems.
