April 12-the General Office of the Ministry of Agriculture released the Operation Plan of the National Cooperation Network of Tropical Agricultural Science and Technology (trial version), signaling the official kick-off of the network.
According to the plan, in the next three to five years, a highly efficient network that covers the tropical regions, and features resource sharing and mutual supplement will be established to enhance the role of science and technology in tropical modern agriculture, industrial structure, and the increase of farmers income, and to promote the development of tropical agriculture and rural economy.
The network is to be guided by MOA Department of Science, Technology and Education, coordinated by agricultural departments of relevant provinces. Its secretariat is set up in the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences, composed of agricultural research institutes, agricultural universities and colleges, agro-technology extension agencies, agricultural enterprises, and specialized cooperative economic organizations from provinces of Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guangdong, Hainan, Sichuan, Guizhou and Yunnan and Guangxi Autonomous Region on a consensual basis.
